    Buckinghamshire Facts
    Did you know…

    1. Posh Pads
Buckinghamshire has more National Trust properties than any other county. Chequers, the country home of the sitting Prime Minister, can also be found nestled in the Bucks countryside.
    2. Literary Dahling
One of the world’s most loved authors, Roald Dahl lived in the village of Great Missenden. He wrote his books by hand, in a shed at the bottom of his garden.
    3. Chitty Chitty
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was filmed in Buckinghamshire. Based on the novel by James Bond author Ian Fleming, the screenplay was written by Dahl. The authors originally met while working for the British Secret Intelligence Service during WWII.
    4. Writers Camp
The county has literary heritage and been home to other world-famous wordsmiths such as Enid Blyton, Mary Shelley, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Terry Pratchett, John Milton, Jerome K Jerome, TS Elliott and Sir Time Rice.
    5. Pinewood
Some of the world’s biggest movies have been filmed at Pinewood Studios; Harry Potter, James Bond, Star Wars, Aliens, Les Miserables and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. TV productions include; Would I Lie To You, Taskmaster and Dancing On Ice.
    6. Weighty Political Matters
High Wycombe is perhaps the only town in the world to weigh its mayor. The reason for the bizarre public ceremony, which dates back to 1678, is to see if the mayor has put on weight at the tax-payers expense during his/her year in office.
    7. Sporting Heroes
The Paralympic Games were born at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The first event, the Stoke Mandeville Games was held in 1948 to celebrate the London Olympics and with just 16 WWII veterans. Today the event features over 4,000 athletes from more than 160 nations.
    8. Buck’s Ducks
The town of Aylesbury celebrates its famous ducks in all manner of ways. The local feathered celebs are particularly prevalent on the menus of many of the town’s pubs and cafes.
